We restore a lot of Mid-Century furniture, from both Danish and British furniture makers, we hope that furniture bought from us will continue to be cared for and loved in their new home.
Only the best Mid-Century Danish and British pieces are made of solid teak or rosewood and the vast proportion of teak pieces you’ll see are teak veneered, we will always describe the items accordingly in our shop.
These veneered pieces are harder to restore in some cases as sanding has be kept to a minimum and watermarks can be more difficult to remove.
We clean, fine sand, apply Danish Oil and then finish with a wax polish.
Always remove spills from food or drink quickly with a damp cloth (not wet) then a light clean with Danish Oil and Very Fine Wire Wool (0000 grade) and apply wax or spray with Wood Silk Non- Silicon Polish.
The advantage of the varnished finishes is that they do protect your furniture, but only if then you use a beeswax polish. Other sprays will gradually remove the finish. The advantage of Danish oiled finishes are they’re much easier to clean.
Keep your piece away from direct sunlight as this will bleach the wood over time and spoil the appearance of it.
We have on occasion used mayonnaise on very dry pieces of furniture, as the egg and vinegar will nourish the wood of oiled furniture be sure to wipe off any excess and leave to dry, then apply Danish Oil and wax such as Briwax or Micro Crystalline this will protect the piece from marking.
Remember to use 100% cotton cloths or fabrics to remove the surplus, otherwise you will end up with a greasy finish.
